The most common symptom of death by varroa is the white feces in the cells
around the dead bees. Look close as it looks a lot like suger stuck to the
cells get the glasses on!

Is there any valid means of counting varroa on the bees in a colony that did
over the winter? Could this be used to give an indication of death by
varroa?
