Amen. Great post, George.

What amazes me in threads like these is, as I said, anecdotal evidence
trumps science. "It works for me" becomes a universal truth. I thought I
had discovered the Holy Grail of growing my own bees from splits, but I
actually grew bees that were fine for a while but eventually developed
problems. Much better to bring in new stock, especially with Varroa
knocking down the gene pool. Commercial beekeepers knew this and I
thought I, as a hobby beekeeper, could do better.

I share George's frustration, since this fall feeding battle has been
going on since I joined the BeeList (and led to my wondering why my bees
were not surviving like George's and Tony's). It actually was worse
before moderation. Gets a bit frustrating.

I note that many of the old timers have begun to sit back and let some
of the "recurring" posts sit. I can share that frustration. You get to
the point of just staying silent, for, in time, the problem will go away
and that poster will no longer be keeping bees. It was with great
reluctance that I bothered to post. Were it not for several private
emails, I would have shut up and enjoyed the summer.
