Hi Randy and all

Years ago, corrugated cardboard boxes were sold for this purpose.
They were made without bottoms, with tops of 4 overlapping flaps.
The bottom edges were dipped in paraffin to stop wicking from the
snow/slush and the outside was coloured black. The idea of corplast
was promoted by the Apiarist at the U of Guelph who had bought some
from the US(no longer available). Both the cardboard and plastic
sleeves fold flat. The longevity of the corplast ones make them the
preferred choice. They are an inch or so wider and longer than the
hive so that they slip easily over it. The Wellington County
Beekeepers Association have arranged the production of the sleeves
for several years and sells them to members and others at slightly
above costs. Each year the excess funds are donated to the OBA Tech
Transfer Program to help with their research.
