I have been told that small AHB swarms combine in a location and that it 
appears
each will remain together with the group but separate giving the impression
of the hive raising and keeping double queens.

Hard to prove either way but AHB swarms have been watched entering hives and
then when checked a few days later both queens are still in the hive but I
have been told never laying side by side.
