I have seen this quite a few times over the years. I believe that you are right that a worker entered an empty cell to clean or inspect (or perhaps take a nap ;) ) and got sealed in by other workers by what motivation I can only guess. Practical joke? I have also seen queen cells that have been resealed after emergence. Close inspection of the trap door reveals that it had been closed and rewaxed but empty. Also interesting is that they often leave these empty cells for a long time, weeks, rather then tear them down.

Great work Bill. Waiting to see who comes out. Have you thought of putting a cell protector on?
