Butyric acid is a natural degradation product of animal fats.  It is a
component of butter and parmesan cheese.  It is naturally produced on your
own skin and in your gut.  Humans have produced and eaten butyric acid over
the entire course of evolution, so this is not a new chemical to our
systems.
