Very interesting, Bill.

CCD hives, by definition, have large amounts of brood and almost no bees.

Brood without bees to feed and warm it tends to die.  Under some conditions, 
quite a bit of brood would be dead.

I wonder if dead brood is repulsive to would-be invading insects like SHB 
and moths as well as to bees?

Sounds very plausible.
