Mike, mating in a commercial situation may be quite different than under
conditions of lower colony density.
In a large commercial mating yard well stocked with drone mother hives, it
may be the rare queen that makes it 100 ft before being chased by a drone
comet--I've watched quite a few matings take place within the distance that
I could throw a stone.
