All other colony health issues aside. The missing piece in this thread is a discussion about the need for a hive environment that supports survival. If a colony can control the hive gases to regulate their metabolic rate as temperatures change and live in a space where the area above the cluster can be heated above the dew point, the colony will likely survive their environmental extremes. In my opinion, those conditions are easily met with sufficient insulation and no added ventilation.
