Charlie, I can't see that you can realistically disagree with the above.
There is plenty of hard evidence in support.

IPM does not mean that one cannot treat prophylactically.  I sprayed my
grapes prophylactically twice this season with stylet oil to prevent
powdery mildew.  And I can use pheromone traps prophylactically to reduce
codling moth.

But that doesn't mean that it is wise to treat every single acre of corn
with exactly the same prophylactic treatment with the same insecticide year
after year.  That is a recipe for the evolution of resistant pests, as well
as excessive environmental impact.

Things are not all black or white.  In biological systems, it's all in the
details.
