I suspect at least part of this is going to be a  cull of the less aware 
beekeepers, as resistant mites kill off hives which are  still being treated with 
fluvalinate. Add a terrible summer last  year, followed by an unusually long 
winter, and it's not hard to see  why there might have been an unusully high 
level of losses!
