     Can you clarify?  I
have always thought it was interesting how similar they all are, up around
20%.


sure  Dogs,  domestic  keep it under 10%  12/14 % can cause skin problems,  14-18 we feed high performance hunting dogs  but only during the seasons.  rest of the year they get scurvy.   
Cattle we like to keep at 12/16%   some of our locals tried a 22% brewers yeast and burned the cattles stomachs.  
Horse like 12/14 %   to much causes  several slight problems,  mares feed an imbalance have trouble birthing.http://gettyequinenutrition.biz/Library/Proteinwhatarethebestsources.htm

Chickens like 14% max also,  although in them they just seem to excrete the excess.
  you will see some feeds listed higher,  but its usually a play on math to make it seem better
The only one that is higher is fish food,  and that depends on species.   Shrimps are around 18%  catfish I think in the 25% range  and upewards of 30% for tilaipia
Most of the expense in feed is that protien,  so over feeding is not cost effective,  even when it doesnt cause issues.
Hogs,  younger get higher protien,  slows down as they age to control growth rates  Again,  to much protien causes digestive problems  usually scours.  same with bottle calves, and sheep.  
basic hog levels are 18 toll 40 lbs 15% to 125  and 12  to finish.
there are of course some slight variations  but I can tell you when I heard dry AP23 was 46%  I didn't belive it.
