John and Bee-L readers,
University of Montana bee researchers have made available two good videos
about building electric fencing around apiaries to protect colonies from
bears.  You can view the videos at http://biology.umt.edu/bees/video.htm .
It seems that carefully built electric fencing is about the only way to
discourage a bear.
