A lot of researchers are pointing to surfactants as potentially a huge overlooked environmental problem. These substances are virtually unregulated and are used in widely different applications ranging from agricultural crops, to dispersing oil spills, to the fluids pumped into the ground in the hydro-fracking process. Even if these surfactants were just soap (which they're not), the dispersal of billions of gallons of it all over the planet could be very harmful.
