Unless you can control the drone population at in at least a 10 mile radius of your mating yard(s), it's my understanding that you won't have control of the drone mating population for your virgin queens.  And that would include drones which have been medicated in hives within that radius.

We had a queen producer in the lower Alabama area who provided queens (his drone producers) to all of the beekeepers within that radius free of charge just so that he could control, to the best of his ability, the drone population for his production queens.
