Our state deregulated in '91, and recently several industrial wind projects have been built with more proposed. A friend of mine lived beneath one of several hundred turbines and complained about the noise associated with the gas-powered generators that fire them up at 5am, power them down in the evenings, and run the turbines on low wind days, waking her children. The daily decibel level is tough to determine. In hearings, we were told they don't exceed 35 (normal office environment); however, some have said they're far louder than that. My friend also experienced problems with the shadow/flicker. Because we're in a cold climate, ice throw is a concern. Data on bird and bat strikes, as well as large mammal (moose, etc.) disruption are hard to come by, as any studies presented before state regulators are paid for by the multinationals from Spain. The turbines we have are 500' high. So, you could assume that honey bees' flight paths would be well below that, but I think it would be surprising if wind currents at lower levels would not be influenced at all.
