As a beekeeper in the same province - Ontario and in the Niagara Peninsula
I should correct the above statement .
Pertaining to "eradication" of hives as our provincial apiarist likes to
call it, that was in the past so w.r.t.the most recent incursion across the
Niagara River no hives were destroyed.
I know this since a very good friend was the one who alerted the ministry
about shb in his hives wrt Niagara recently.
There are undertones that big beeks here have also been affected.
So the question is , how will this affect the pollination services provided
outside of the province.

As Bob , all of us here have some concern but now it's a matter of diligent
IPM.
And that involves knowledge.

What should concern us here is the fact the Ontario Ministry did not inform
the registered beek in a broadcast be it by snail mail or email of any
occurrences.
The question remains why? . Not everyone has time to hit their website -
that aspect of posting instead of due diligence could be another topic .

What should concern us is also the one eye shut attitude of the Ontario
Ministry about all the unregistered beeks, the newborn beeks among that
"urban"
crowd. The lack of knowledge makes them potentially the breeders not just
of varroa but shb .

Thanks Bob - Trevor for your input,
I know the shb topic has been covered before but we
hope others from elsewhere join in also

btw it was -15 to-20 C where I am, I guess some shb will be shivering.
