I would think this has more to do with a lack of knowledge by the beekeepers than the type of hive. Excluders can be fitted to KTBH's if desired. Dr. Wyatt Mangum has a pretty nice book published on his experience over 25 years using KTBH's and would be useful as a manual for management.
