My memory of the research is that it came out of Russia, and the 'short 
take' that I took away from it was that the vibration of a running truck 
engine would effectively calm a hive down, but it had something like a 
20 minute onset.  That is, if you load and drive a truck with bees for 
more than 20 minutes, then unload, they would still be relatively calm. 
  I can't remember the specifics.
