I like to pour the alcohol/mite mixture through a paper coffee filter
sitting in a large tea strainer resting on top of a 2 gallon plastic
bucket. You can recover the alcohol easily and it is super easy to see and
count the mites. The mites really 'pop' against the white filter paper and
people who have never done alcohol washes are suitably impressed. If mite
counts are low you can keep using the same filter paper and keep a running
count to save a little time.
