We are seeing a huge golden rod explosion here as well.  Last year we were in week 18 of a twenty week long drought.  This year we have had decent rainfall spread out throughout summer.

This year in adjacent parkland (1 third of colonies but up against about 3500 acres of county park we are seeing a huge amount of thoroughwort or common boneset (I think there are both).  Both of which are part of  the genus Eupatorium.  There is a yellowing flower that I have not yet identified that is also in heavy bloom.  It is not variety of golden rod and sunchokes...or aster.  The bees are in very heavily as well.
