A few years back now I did a large scale test of Foundation, vs wax vs foundationless (natural) 24 hives in each of 4 groups. This was based on some MB information and a debate on BS.

Results were clear, Foundationless drew compete combs 30% faster. Period. The caveat is that they usually do not attach it well at the bottom, so you lose space, and its worthless in a radial extractor. So you get what you pay for.

Heavy wax foundation beats light or unwaxed by about 25%. I suspect that’s because good heavy wax is trans located.

Foundation vs plain wax was a wash.

Unfortunately a PC virus wiped out my spreadsheets or I would gladly share.

Charles
