That is the headline of an article in the New Scientist magazine dated 16th
November 2002.  It is about an observation that in Kenya, where elephants are
becoming a nuisance by destroying trees, they avoid trees with beehives hung
in them, and to a lesser extent, trees with dummy hives.  The article refers
to Apis mellifera africana.  Has anybody heard of this sub-species?
