Typically find and burn about 1% a year. But burn
ven if I only find a single cell of AFB!

In the UK AFB is a 'notifiable disease' and, once the diagnosis is confirmed (there is a standstill order until it is) the treatment is burning and burying the contents of the hive and scorching with a blow torch the interior. The beekeeper is compensated through Bee Disease Insurance (BDI) which comes with membership of the BKA. This means that AFB is rare indeed here. BDI is run by beekeepers for beekeepers. Surplus funds are channeled into disease research. The system works well.
