In my younger years, we routinely used burning sulfur to fumigate 
buildings - so, yes, I was well aware of the toxicity. You don't want to get 
even one whiff of it!

And old timey bee hunters routinely used sulfur to kill feral hives so they 
could "rob" the honey...
