I'm going to refer back to my days north of Indianapolis again, waaay back in the 1970's.  I was running five hives on the west side of a barn on a concrete pad.  The hives faced west and had solid bottom boards and went through about four winters in two deeps.  The one thing I did to prevent moisture was to prop up the outer cover over the inner cover with 3/4" blocks of wood.  For the entire time I had those hives there I never had a problem with moisture and never lost a hive.  They were all robust in the spring.
