>there has been some mention recently of improvements in winter survival rates at northern location by those folks that use candy boards. at least according to the older text you do need to draw a line between a candy board and 'blocks of sugar' not only in how they are put together but also their potential benefit. by the older text a candy board is supplemental feed and a block of sugar is emergency feed. in most processes when you cut the corners so that making a product is easier it also means you have given up certain quality aspect of that product.

I have tried both up here and have had much higher success with sugar blocks. Don't really know why but it is a significant difference. I have ceased putting anything on hives that are up to weight but am using exclusively candy blocks on hives that are low weight. I do invert the sugar with apple cider vinegar in the sugar blocks which may improve it's use.
