Depends what you mean by small. I have between a dozen and a score of hives 
 on sites approaching double figures and use a graduated syringe at the  
recommended rate of 5 ml per seam of bees.  I so treated an apprentice's  hive 
at the other end of the county last week as I was out that way but shall do 
 mine at about the solstice, hoping that there will be a brood break then. 
Often  there isn't.
 
I made up the current flagon of oxalic last year and, as it resides in my  
fridge, is as clear as a bell.
