"Science isn't rejecting the claims themselves so much as the evidence used to support them."

Extraordinary claims can be very useful to the scientists. If the USDA people didn't follow up on claims of resistant bees from the Prymorsky region, those Russian bees may still just be an elusion in North America. Like many other extraordinary claims there is always a starting point.
