> To remove Varroa-infested brood, workers probably rely on their ability to discriminate different cues and thresholds linked to brood health (Masterman et al., 2001 ). Consequently, the choice of the assay and stimulus could lead to different results regarding this behavior (Espinosa-Montano et al., 2008 ). Unfortunately, nowadays there is no assay that has been designed to quantify easily the hygienic behavior involved in the removal of Varroa-infested brood, and that could be used routinely in early stages of breeding programs.
