Your "veteran" beekeeper gave you good advice.

Put super in place.  Wait until "something" is put into the cells that have
been drawn on 3-5 frames.  This may be BROOD as well as nectar.  Which ever
will be an attractant (bait) to attract bees to cover it.  Make sure the
queen is DOWN BELOW and put an excluder under the super.
