Hi Jerry, a couple of questions on this comment you made the other day.

1. Is this the Kerr genetics that you are referring to as the "old Baton
Fouge experiment"

Yes in a way. Drone semen brought into the US from Brazil resulted in a
hybrid line of bees that was distributed to beekeepers. A disorder called
Disappearing Disease then hit the US. It was well documented by Bill
Wilson, at the USDA lab in Laramie. IT hit the breeding areas of LA and TX, and
showed up when bee colonies in the north (especially our area) had empty
hives in the spring. Eventually, it was reported in nearly as many states as
the current CCD.

2. When are you referring to? 1970s

3. How are you using the term "CCD" here...in the Plos One paper, you
refer to the "CCD original event" as being 2006-2007.

CCD (as per our paper) was a term coined to describe the disorder seen in
2006-2007. Some of us old timers suspect it was the same as we saw in the
70s. I'm not sure that the event in the 70s was the same as the occassional
reports going back to the turn of the century. The incidents in the 70s
were the first wide spread occurrences.

Wilson's reward was the closing of the lab in Laramie, moving it to
Weslaco. It was a career changing event.
