L.S.,

I sample groups of larvae 200 hours postcapping. To find them I open a number of cells and look for larve with age characteristics I want (body colour, eye colour).
It would be easier/work saving if I could deduce the age of the larvae from some morphological feature of the capping itself.

For my eyes there does not seem to be a difference between say 10 hours old capping and 250 hours old capping. Maybe old capping tends to look more "sunken".

I have been searching in the literature but with no success.

Can someone point me to a publication on this matter? Or share their findings?

all the best,
Lennard
