"Chimera" would have been better!  : )

CCD reminds me of the blind men and the elephant.  Each man comes away from
the elephant (which exists in reality) with a very different view of what
constitutes an "elephant."

In the case of elevated colony mortality, it's more like the blind men
groping and trying to describe a herd of mixed wildlife.
