Their  small hive beetle map needs to be up dated I know of hobbyist
beekeepers here that have had small hive beetle problems for a couple
of years. Not to the degree of the south but they certainly can live
through the winter.

I received a box of 12 caged queens last week bred in Maine that had
small hive beetles loose in the box  with the attendants. The queen
breeder has hives that spend the winter in the south, I would say
there is a problem in those hives if they can't shake some attendants
with out getting a half dozen beetles. So I would imagine the beetles
are established in the yards they summer in and can winter over fine
since they are managing to live in other areas of Maine.

I also looked at the AFB map and they missed us there too. It has been
all around this area this summer. I wonder how the up-dating on a map
like that happens? Through reports from the extension office? It is
good to have a reference as to the spread of pests but the updating
seems to be slow.
