Another point is that these may be normal bee behaviors present in all colonies. The difference in colonies could be just efficiency. And, a simple trait like sensitive olfaction could account for the enhancement of hygienic debris removal as well as heightened defensiveness. And, it could be the result of one patriline, and would not necessarily be passed on to future generations. The traits that a queen passes on can only come from her one father and one mother, while a colony is a mix of the offspring of many different drone lines, &c.
