there was NO brood in the frames above the mite drop, only empty or frames with honey.

addl info: 
1. since i wrote last, there has been no mite drop under those same frames with grease patties.
2. there was mite drop under frames where the bees were clustered, which happened to be where they were eating mini-candy board in 1 hive and where they were eating fondant in hive 2.
