"... quite a number of studies that have previously found that OA applied for mite treatments doesn't add enough residues to honey to be of any concern."

For sure you will be able to detect it, the thymol for exemple, is detected in any organic honey at much higher level than in thyme or basswood honey (known for thymol content). But advantage of OA compare to thymol, it does not smell !
See here result of tests made in Germany in 2005, on various honey samples. Thymol was detected in 36 honey samples. http://www.cvuas.de/pub/beitrag.asp?subid=1&Thema_ID=2&ID=421&Pdf=No
I translate the ยง :
"Another anti-varroa agent is the natural substance thymol, which is detected as the second most common active substance with 36 finds (see illustration). It naturally occurs also in the thyme and linden flower honey, but only in small amounts at 0.01 mg/kg.
When comparing conventional and organic honey, it is noticeable that the frequency of thymol findings is approximately the same for both groups (organic and conventional), on about 30% it is positive and approximately equal to the thymol level of the organic honey, with 0.16 mg/kg, about 6 times as high as in the case of the positively tested conventional product. In the fight against the Varroa mite the organic beekeepers have less resources available, which is why more thymol is used here instead of other drugs.
There is no limit for thymol. However, contents above about 0.8 mg/kg can result in odor and taste. The highest content found here was 0.54 mg / kg."

Anything can be detected !
Georges
