That one statement has caused much debate and puzzlement. 

If one takes it to mean that a third of all the total number of food crop 
varieties are bee pollinated or depend on insect pollination at some stage 
in production, then it makes sense.

If it is taken as meaning a third or whatever of the bulk tonnage of the 
food we eat worldwide, then it is highly suspect IMO.
