I have had a fascination with bees for many years, but never got beyond
reading a Dadant or Sear Roebuck catalog until I moved from suburbia to the
country in 1984. I quickly discovered farm auctions and at one of those
auctions I bought a pile of white boxes on a whim... I thought they must be
for bees.

A week later, the bees agreed and a swarm moved in. I was suddenly a
beekeeper, a beekeeper with no knowledge, no veil, no smoker. I knew no
beekeepers or how to find one. Where was Bee-L then?

I quickly bought a book and sent off for what equipment I thought I needed.
Those bees survived the first winter in spite of me. As with most, one hive
becomes two, then four.... I have put the top on at about 30. The
fascination is still with me.
