> Mentor a few new beekeepers and teach them using your own bees as "teaching material". You just have to be honest and make it beneficial for both sides. 

This is exactly right. By getting them to do the heavy lifting, they gain experience and we extend our ability to keep bees. Mentoring can be a wonderful experience for all parties involved.
