I would agree with Mike.  Don't feed with honey supers on.  And by the time I add my honey supers, I'm done feeding anyway.  Unless it's a swarm I'm trying to settle in May or June, then I usually give them supplemental feed, which they will sometimes ignore if natural nectar is present.
 
Dean leaves too many details to my imagination.  I presume he was trying to draw out comb in the brood nest on a new set up.  If it's an established hive, good flying weather usually takes care of any comb drawing deficits.
