...as I've heard from Peter offlist that he does not feel obligated to discuss the Seeley study, I thought maybe we could try another track.

Would anyone be interested in a "study of the month club"?  Every month we would select one bee related study that is freely available download, and pick it apart...both the good and the bad...what the data might suggest that isn't being said, etc.  It could either happen on Bee-l, or separately (I could host something), and I think we should stay away from the most controversial studies for the first few months....I'd be inclined to start with this one:
