George Imirie stated that one reason he didn't like auger holes was
that it increased the liklihood of stung fingers.  I've never
understood the pictures I've seen of these holes bored in the finger
lift recess.  I bore mine between the first and second frames, just
below the rebbet.  I've not encountered any stinging problems and one
hole in the top box precludes all mold over the winter.  I prefer to
seal the top otherwise in order to place insulation above the inner
cover.  Dan
