What the abstract did not say is what was the treatment method (patties or
syrup) and concentration of Thymol.

My guess, based on the Sammataro study, that patties are the way to go for
broader treatment. Patties tend to get to the younger bees and larva
compared to syrup, which could go anywhere.

As noted in the study, Nurse bees put the pattie material directly into the
cell (without processing) about the 9th day. That would deliver the greatest
punch in the cell. When the bees emerge, they look for protein and the
patties deliver again.
