Although a full crop load is ca. 50-60 microliters, I have measured the
crop contents of a large number of foragers that were attempting to return
to their hives, and in my measurements crop loads of anywhere from 15-30
microliters were more common than the larger loads. I am sure that it
depends on local conditions, but certainly the maximum load is often not
what they are carrying.
