It is my understanding that drones in the yard where the virgins are located will NOT be the drones to mate with her.   Because of the distances each flies, the drones will not fly as far to a drone congregation area or to the same drone congregation area as the queen.   I could be mistaken on this concept I have and welcome corrections.
