"There ought to be a provision somewhere that the decision makers have
checked the credentials of advisers on whose advice/information they base
decisions."

Maybe there ought to be, but who determines those credentials? I seem to
remember Meryl Streep appearing before Congress as an expert witness in
hearings to ban Alar.

"If finally the hearings result in uninformed (wrong) decisions, then go for
the decision makers ... on grounds of negligence in accepting rubbish
advice."

Unfortunately the pols rush to get credit for doing something ... anything
... but the results of their misguided policies are rarely traced back to
them at election time.
