Benzealdehyde,or oil of almonds, is a bee repellant.   Are you  sure the 
label was for benzene?
 
Benzene is a carcinogenic solvent.  
 
Volatile chemicals found in beehives (by us) in urbanized areas include  
benzene, probably because of atmospheric contamination from gasoline  (the 
BTEX mixture of compounds).
