I have a hard time with the thought of a mesh floor here in the winter when

The bees can make it. One of my trials way back when was with open mesh
floors here in Maine. They survived but compared to solid bottom floors, did
not do as well, so I dumped the screened bottom boards. That includes the
screened bottoms that had an insert to close off drafts.
